Train Strike Panic
There is a train strike in Germany today. This means that many trains are either delayed or may even be cancelled. Having booked a train ticket to Vienna today from Hamburg this is very scary for me.
How late is the train?
Is it even going to come?
Am I stuck here and loose a day on my train pass?
Do I even still want to go to Vienna?
Luckily the train was only delayed a half an hour and I should have arrived in Vienna at my hostel if this blog post has gone out.
My best advice for anyone else facing a possible train cancellation is to stay calm. Nothing can be done if your train doesn’t come. It isn’t the fault of the people at the train station, most likely, and throwing a fit isn’t going to do anyone any good. The best thing to be done is go to a service station and calmly ask if they have any information. Be patient, generally they will try their best to help you out and either get you to where you want to go, or perhaps somewhere new.
This could even be a favor in disguise, you could end up somewhere completely new and have an even better time than you could have imagined. Just keep flexible, calm, and polite, and more likely than not things will work out in the end.
Now I just need to hope that the strike ends before next weekend when I’m planning on going to Berlin…
